New Overarching Professional Standards for Teachers, Tutors and Trainers in the Lifelong Learning Sector (published December 06)

Following an extensive programme of research and consultation, LLUK has developed new professional standards for teachers, tutors and trainers in the lifelong learning sector. The standards describe, in generic terms, the skills, knowledge and attributes required of those who perform the wide variety of teaching and training roles across the sector.

'Training to use e-learning in the Learning and Skills Sector'

LSU's 2007 e-prospectus guide 'Training to use e-learning in the Learning and Skills Sector', details information about e-learning for teachers, tutors and trainers in post compulsory education and training in London.

It provides a listing of professional development programmes in ICT and e-learning from both national and regional providers as well as describing organisations which offer professional development and further information.

'Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills' (QTLS)

'Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills' (QTLS) status will be launched for the post-compulsory education and training sector in September 2007. From this date new and unqualified teachers, trainers and tutors within the sector will be required to achieve QTLS status within 5 years.

Existing teachers will have the opportunity to gain QTLS status through professional recognition of their qualifications and experience.

National Teaching and Learning Change Programme

This programme is designed to transform teaching, training and learning in selected subjects by developing and supporting 'Subject Learning Coaches'. It is for teachers and trainers in adult and community learning, colleges, prisons, school sixth forms, sixth form colleges and work-based learning.

The subjects currently available are business, construction, Entry to Employment (E2E), health and social care, information and communication technology (ICT), land-based studies, mathematics, science. From Autumn 2006 it will focus on adult learning, engineering and modern foreign languages.

This programme brings together 'three enablers' to support the transformation of teaching, training and learning:

What does the First (1st) Leadership Course offer?

The First (1st) Leadership Course is the only virtual online e-accelerated course for new and inexperienced Managers and Leaders to get together in a Global, Supportive, On line forum to put Leadership Skills into Practice

Diploma in Public Service Leadership

The Chartered Management Institute is the only chartered professional body dedicated to management and leadership. The Institute''s new Diploma in Public Service Leadership is aimed at developing professional managers within the public sector and encouraging them to work more collaboratively. The programme is designed to run over 12-18 months, on a part-time basis.

New Voluntary Sector Management Qualification (Accredited Level 4)

Charity Training have recently launched a new accredited level 4 management qualification - the BTEC Professional Certificate in Voluntary Sector Management - to support the personal development of managers and trustees in addressing the issues currently facing organisations in the sector.
